Dynamic Reflection Metasurface-Based Compressive Polarimetric AoA Estimation

Published in 2026 IEEE 14th Asia-Pacific Conference on Antennas and Propagation (APCAP), 2026

In this paper, we propose a dynamic reflection metasurface (DRM)–driven compressive framework for polarimetric angle-of-arrival (AoA) estimation. The DRM consists of randomly distributed dynamic cross-polarization converters, which generate spatially low-correlated virtual masks to compress the AoA information of far-field sources. A dual-polarized horn antenna is employed to capture the compressed AoA information under two orthogonal polarization bases via two receiver channels. By leveraging compressive sensing techniques, both the incident angles and the polarization characteristics of the far-field sources can be jointly estimated. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is validated through full-wave simulations.
